WHO AM I?

That is a good question. If we get straight to the facts, I am a woman in her 30s, a wife, a mother of three, a daughter, a younger sister, a friend. Like everyone else though, I am more than those labels.

I am a person who cares deeply for everyone and everything around me.

I am always learning & vastly aware of my imperfections.

In college I studied cultural anthropology with an emphasis on human rights and have minors in political science and psychology. I think equality is an intrinsic right for everyone. Period.

Music is always playing in my house, my car, or my ears. On occasion, I may swear and make bad jokes and puns - those are not mutually exclusive.

WHO DO I WANT TO BE?

As humans, we are constantly changing and evolving. Life is not static. Who were you 10 years ago? I was definitely not the person I am today.

I want to be someone my children are proud of. I want to be a friend that my friends can count on. I want to feel proud of myself and know that I’ve done things to make this world a better place, in whatever small way that is. I want to find the perfect balance of healthy boundaries and showing up for myself more.

I want to photograph the moments that live on people’s walls for decades.

WHY?

The two topics above now bring us to the conclusion, my why. Why do I photograph?

Taking a photograph is freezing a moment in time; the good and the bad. You can’t escape the honesty of a candid photo.

Life has a way of kicking the you know what out of you, yet the human condition keeps us persevering.

JOY can be captured in a smile when you hear your favorite person call your name. LOSS can be captured when you hold a loved ones hands in their last moments. ANGER can be captured in a look of apathy as you stand in disbelief after an argument. FEAR and HOPE can be captured when you hold your newborn and think about the world we live in. LOVE can be captured in the subtle selfless moments when we do something for others without being asked or prompted; whether it be a caress of the hair or picking up another damn dirty sock off the floor.

I have taken the first photographs of families and taken the last photographs of families - I’ve learned with those experiences just how much of a privileged it is to be the one capturing them and I don’t take that role lightly.
